California poppy is an abundant West Coast wild flower whose leaves and orange petals can be dried, rolled into joints, and smoked when pot is hard to come by. It is not an opium poppy but does contain several opium-related alkaloids.

A joint of California poppy will produce a mild, euphoric marijuana-like buzz for about thirty minutes or so. Light one up a little later in the day and it'll do next to nothing for your head. About one joint per day is all that anyone will find effective. It is not addictive, nor does it have any negative side effects.
